Delinquente continue to expand into new territory with unfamiliar beverage varieties presented in unusual ways. When they asked for some labels for their new Piquette drinks in 2021, I had to keep asking “So wait, what is this stuff?” The design challenge of packaging a product that most people haven’t heard of before called on some extra research and exploration.

Piquette is a wine-adjacent carbonated drink that is big on refreshment and low on fuss. Delinquente are the masters of spritzy, summer drinks, so these label designs aim to be as bold and colorful as the product itself. Being a subsidiary product, we chose to brand this outside of Delinquente’s visual style, instead presenting their piquettes with an independent look. Fresh, fun and funky. If you know, you know.

The two varieties of piquette appear both in glass bottle and hand grenade-size cans. While they had the canning machine turned on, Delinquente just casually released a run of their carbonated Pet Nat in single serving cans. Canned wine is starting to appear on occasion but still seldom seen. Categories of food and drink are heavily associated with particular packaging substrates, so it makes for an exciting design challenge to visually communicate the product in an unfamiliar context.
